The Annual Tasting of Austrian Wine took place on the 4th. February, at the Institute of Directors, Pall Mall, London. The Tasting was arranged by the Austrian Wine Marketing Board.
More than one hundred Wineries were represented, some by Importers and some on their own. The Austrian Wine Company shared a stand with two wineries they import from, Schneider Winery, Tattendorf, Thermenregion and Kaiser Winery, Eisenstadt, Burgenland.
George Schneider presented 6 wines, four reds including Zweigelt,Pinot Noir, St Laurent, and two whites Taglsteiner and “Gemischter Satz†which is a blend of four different grapes from the same vineyard.
Kurt Kaiser presented five wines, including two Blaufrankisch, a Leithaberg DAC 2011 Blaufrankisch which rated 91 points in Falstaff, and a Blaufrankisch Klassic Perfection from Burgenland. There was also a delightful 2012 Ausbruch Desert Wine, which will improve in the coming years.
Lunch included Austrian specialities such as min Frankfurters, Schnitzel and Austrian Pastries.
The Austrian Wine Company met several Wineries who were exhibiting for the first time, with a view to possible imports later in the year. We are planning a visit to Vienna in June to attend Vie Vinum, which is being held at the Palace Hofburg. More about this later.
